| In web-basd video production I am exploring abandoment through visual imagery. The art
of taking a photo is appealing; but when photographing another person, one must be
careful not to abandon the subject. For instance, many say a picture is worth a thousand words,
but how many words can you come up with for this man? This man is a stranger to the audience. We can say he is wearing a purple shirt, sitting in a corner, drawing an image, and wearing glasses. But who is he? While withdrawing information about his life from the audience, and leaving
the viewers to make assumptions about this
man, I have inadvertently abandoned him by taking his picture. My studies will focus on how image-makers abandon their subjects in their deliverable, and investigating if this type of abandonment is justified for the sake of the
photo. Can the photographer redeem him or herself by offering many images documenting
the life of this individual or by accompanying
the photograph with text? |
